FISHING LAWS

-

If you want to fish, you must get a permit from the Namibian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources. It costs R14 pp (bring an ID or passport for each person) and is valid for a month – you can get one at Swakopmund (Strand Street) or Henties Bay (Hanganeni Fishing Center). You need this permit to fish at any legitimate location along the coast, including the Skeleton Coast National Park, and if you visit the Kunene mouth with a tour group. The concessionaires for this section of the park, Skeleton Coast Adventure Tours/OIG, have special permission to allow tour groups to fish at the Kunene. There are strict measures on fishing zones, and a catchand-release policy applies here.
