ALPINE BUTTERFLY LOOP

This provides a secure loop in the middle of a rope, from which a load can be secured, or to one or either of the rope ends with the loop hanging free, from which you can hang something else.

“The loop can be pulled in three directions. If you used a Figure 8 on a bight in the middle of a rope, for example, and pulled the two tails it would roll itself undone. The Alpine Butterly is very secure,” says Rob.

Step 1 Wrap the rope around your hand twice. At the end of turn one, position it close to your fingertips.

Step 2 Continue around and complete turn two back near your thumb.
