The average Jimny almost never leaves the suburbs and sleeps snugly in a garage every night. You won’t go wrong buying one of these and gearing it up for adventure. Mechanically, they’re reliable and the materials are durable.

A Suzuki Jimny retains its value particularly well. You can buy a 2010 Honda CR-V, a Jeep Cherokee or a Nissan X-Trail for the same money as a 2010 Jimny, for example, which all offer loads more seating and luggage space. * tested by Dynotech, Cape Town ** based on the prices at * cars.co.za with an even older vehicle, you could buy a 2008 BMW X5, a 2007 Land Rover Disco 3 or a 2005 Mitsubishi Pajero for R130 000 – that leaves you with R20 000 in your pocket that you could spend on an epic trip!

The problem with a second-hand Jimny is therefore its high resale value, minimal packing space and low top speed. On the other hand, you get reliability, ability and – and I’m sure you will agree – it’s a flipping cute vehicle.
