Go! Drive & Camp

I also want to go!

-

Can I drive there on my own? Yes, definitely.

How long will it take? The route will not last longer than two days – you can even do it in one day if you leave out the visit to the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, but why rush?

What should I be driving? The sand can be thick in places. That’s why four-wheel drive – and especially good ground clearance – is recommended.

How much fuel do I need? This doesn’t need to be a concern, as there are petrol stations on the way and the route is only 350 km long.

What equipment should I pack? Sand tracks are always useful, but they aren’t essential. You should run into other travellers who can help if you are in a spot of bother.

Can I tow here? Yes, but some of the roads through the dense bush are narrow and in certain sections, such as Lala Nek, turning around in the car park is tricky, even if you’re not towing.
