I ALSO WANT TO GO!
Can I drive it on my own?
Yes, it’s a popular route and we don’t think you would ever have to wait more than half an hour next to the road for a Good Samaritan to stop and help if you are in a pickle.
How long?
The route is 1 900 km long and lasts five days if you overnight in a new place every night – three days if you put foot and don’t stop for photos.
What vehicle do I need?
A soft-roader will be fine, but fit all-terrain tires rather than ordinary city tires.
How much fuel do I need?
You must have a range of 400 km, otherwise you will have to deviate from the route every now and again to refuel. You need to be able to repair a puncture and you must carry fluids just in case something overheats. A compressor is always handy, but you can do without a winch, high-lift jack and sand boards.
Can I tow?
Yes, but not an ordinary road caravan. You should tow an offroad trailer or bush caravan that can handle corrugated roads.
