I want to go, too!
WHERE?
The Richtersveld spans much of South Africa’s northwestern corner, spilling over the border into southwestern Namibia.
PROVISIONS
Stock up before you set off, as you can’t be guaranteed everything you need along the way. Springbok has several big shops as well as a few fast food joints, but that’s about it. A water tank is essential, as drinkable water is hard to come by in the region.
ACCOMMODATION Skilpad Chalets
These spacious cabins are located high up in the hills of Namaqua National Park and sleep up to 4 people. They’re especially popular in spring, when the local flora blooms. Contact reservations@sanparks.org 012 428 9111
Price R800 per night.
Fiddler’s Creek @ Bushwhacked
There are several similar campsites to choose from in Vioolsdrift, but this one oozes charm and tranquillity. Contact info@bushwhacked.co.za

Sendelingsdrif Rest Camp
More of a rest stop than an actual destination, this campsite lacks any real character and is best used when time is an issue. Contact reservations@sanparks.org

Price R275 per night.
Ganakouriep Wilderness Camp
Even though there are plenty of budget options in the Richtersveld, it’s worth splashing out on a night or two at either Tatasberg or Ganakouriep. Contact reservations@sanparks.org 012 428 9111
Price R1 030 per night.
De Hoop Rest Camp
This is the Richtersveld National Park’s most popular campsite thanks to its location along the banks of the Orange. It’s a great place for fly-fishing and canoeing.
