HOT CHOCOLATE WITH MALT BEER

Oh, so bitter sweet!!

Beer lovers Karl Tessendorf and Greg Gilowey gave me the idea to combine malt beer and hot chocolate in their excellent recipe book Beer Country’s Beer Food Fire. My version is super simple, but you can play around with sweeteners and seasonings including vanilla and even chilli.

Ingredient­s

(make 4 small cups)

150 g dark chocolate, grated 1 cup cream

1 cup full-cream milk a pinch cinnamon

1 cup stout marshmallo­ws

Here’s how

melt the chocolate with the cream until smooth. Add the milk and cinnamon and heat through. Taste and sweeten if you like.

stir in the beer and heat the mixture until just warm. Pour the hot chocolate into cups and add as many marshmallo­ws as you like. They’re extra yummy if you braai them a bit first, but it’s optional. Drink while hot.
