CARAVAN TEST

The Ingane is Infanta 4x4’s smallest camper, but its abundance of convenience – and packing space – gives it an advantage in the off-road trailer market.

The Western Cape manufacturer Infanta 4x4 entered the market 20 years ago with an offroad trailer, but today it focuses mainly on its two large off-road caravans. But with last year’s Covid-19 lockdown, owner Jurie Swart decided to breathe new life into that original trailer again.

One of the big problems with off-road trailers is that there is seldom enough open space where you can store your stuff. There may be drawers and cupboards everywhere, but that’s usually at the expense of storage space for larger items.

You won’t find room to complain about this when it comes to the Ingane.

Settling in

When you’re towing it, especially off-road, remove the heavy-duty jockey wheel and fit it on top of the A-frame. This ensures better ground clearance at the coupler for when you have to go over a tall dune, for example.

The Ingane has a back corner steady on each side, and this is the swing-down type common on off-road trailers. It works quickly and easily and only requires a couple of turns with the crank-handle before the trailer is steady and level.

On our test model, the tent opens to the right and forms a large room next to the Ingane. You zip the tent bag open, stand next
