Go! Drive & Camp

EDITOR’S LETTER

- EDITOR schalk.jonker@media24.com

It’s been exactly one year since Drive & Camp’s frequency changed to appear on shelf every second month. Back then, I explained here (and in a very awkward editorial meeting) it was a far-reaching decision that had been difficult to make. That is why it’s so gratifying to be able to state a year later that this was undoubtedly the right direction to take. My heart overflows with gratitude to you for supporting our magazine, to the advertisers for still being with us, and all my colleagues for taking this strange bull by the horns, and, with positive attitudes and heaps of work ethic, put together these 124 pages time and time again. We’re still here. If you look at what’s happening in the magazine industry these days, that is a milestone in itself. I raise my glass for many more of those in our future.

AS FOR THE second milestone, Mic van Zyl delivered his 100th column for us (and our predecessor Drive Out) for this issue. If you ask me, his views on the new Cruiser versus the new Defender couldn’t be aired in a more appropriate column. Mic’s knowledge of the 4x4 industry, vehicles, and engines in general has added so much value to our offering, and, even though there are times when some readers (cough… Ford… cough…) get a little hot under the collar, he always stands by his views and is willing to have discussions to defend them. It’s an absolute pleasure and privilege to have you on our team, Mic. Thank you so much for your authentic contributions. We look forward to the next 100. Congratulations!

I AM EXTREMELY excited about the third milestone we’re celebrating this month. The very first issue of go! Motorcycle is currently on shelf, and you’ve probably already seen or bought it. Cyril has been arguing for the inclusion of some motorcycle content since he started here. So, we finally caved and let him put together an entire magazine chock full of motorcycle content. Allow me to be the first to congratulate you and the team on a great result, Cyril. I’ve even started to ponder my life decisions and why I don’t own a motorcycle. go! Motorcycle is packed with everything around adventure motorcycling. Equipment, routes, recipes, an overview of a host of motorcycles on the market, and a bully beef test. We even have Deon Meyer (yes, the one and only) on board to rave about the joys of motorcycling. As I say, the magazine, which is now an annual publication, is currently on sale. Do let us know your thoughts about it. Stay safe!
