Go! Drive & Camp

Jewel on our doorstep

- HENRY TERBLANCHE Assagay, Durban

We discovered a lovely waterfall right near our house, and we realised again, you don’t always have to travel an eternity to reach a beautiful destination. If you take the N3 from Durban and take the Shongweni exit, drive towards the Shongweni Farmers & Craft Market. About 5 km later, there’s a faded sign for the Delville Wood train station. Turn in here and stay on the dirt road past the old, abandoned station to a train tunnel. (By the way, I have a particular interest in tunnels, because I’ve blasted a few train tunnels myself in the past.) On the other side of the tunnel, you emerge at Kirk Falls, also known as the Wekeweke Falls. It’s the perfect place to have a delicious picnic, and you can also sometimes see people coming here to practise their religious rituals. It’s a true gem!
