LOOK AFTER YOUR LEATHERMAN

Leatherman tools’ 25-year warranty is unparalleled. Read on to find out what it covers.

-

When you buy a Leatherman, you know you’ll be able to use it for decades to come, but that doesn’t mean you can misuse your knife or multitool and expect Leatherman to cover the cost of repairs. In the past, Leatherman provided services and replacement parts or tools free of charge, regardless of whether a tool was covered by the warranty or not. Unfortunately, this created the belief that all and any damage to a Leatherman would be covered by the warranty. This is not true – only defects in material and workmanship are considered valid warranty claims. All other breakages – whether accidental or consequential – were never covered. The warranty in no way means that the company will automatically replace any broken tool – especially because South Africans can be quite hard on their Leathermans. Leatherman products are built to last, but if there’s a defect because of material or workmanship, your Leatherman is backed by a 25-year limited warranty.

WHAT DOES THE WARRANTY ENTAIL?

It only covers tools purchased for personal use. It doesn’t cover bulk purchases from auctions, government or customs clearance sales, second-hand markets or flea markets with the intent to resell repaired or refurbished tools. The warranty covers only the original or primary owner and doesn’t cover abuse, modification, theft, loss or unauthorised or any other unreasonable use of your Leatherman. It doesn’t cover accessories, sheaths, imprinting, coloured coatings, tool finishes, cleaning or sharpening. Leatherman also doesn’t take responsibility for corroded or rusted tools, blunt blades, dirty tools, burnt tools or welding damage to tools. Leatherman isn’t liable for incidental or consequential damages. The warranty covers products purchased through an authorised dealer, and proof of purchase from an authorised dealer may be required. Choose an insured and trackable delivery service when sending your tool to Leatherman, as they’re not responsible for products that don’t arrive at their service centre.
