One river, many drifts

Referring to the article on Die Hel and De Hoop, I noticed something else: all the signposts of the drifts in Meiringspoort have the sign for a river next to their names and not a drift. So that means there are 26 different rivers in the poort! The authorities made a similar mistake when they put up the sign for the Kredouw Pass next to Prince Albert. It actually read “Kareedouwpas”. We lived in the town ourselves, and thanks to our neighbour Helena Marincowitz, the nameplate was changed – but only after a big struggle. CLIVE GIBSON Gqeberha
