Rooipoort Guest Farm, Philipstown

You don’t always know what to expect when booking an overnight stop on a working sheep farm, but Rooipoort was a wonderful surprise. We asked our hostess, Kay Fourie, in advance for a few pieces of mutton to braai (when in Rome…). What we got was a feast of lamb chops, pofadders, leg of lamb, and salads. The guest farm is about 10 km outside Philipstown and a good overnight option. Price From R250 pppn.

Tankwa Tented Camp

There are places where one stays that are nice – with a nice bed, nice food, and a nice shower. But these are not the places that would necessarily always stick in your memory.

The Tankwa Tented Camp is not such a place. Instead, it is one of those spots that talks to you, that you remember (for several reasons), and that you’ll always crave.

There are the artworks that date from the time of AfrikaBurn, the Unexplained Bar, the people, the landscape… truly a special place.

You can camp here or stay in a luxury tent or chalet.

Price From R450 pppn.
