Go! Drive & Camp

Here’s our motorhome

-

The Discoverer range of motorhomes is manufactured by Motorhome-World in Atlantis, and you can rent some of their latest models from Bobo Campers.

The Discoverer 4 we drove was built on the chassis of a 2.3 TDi Iveco S13 with an eightspeed automatic transmission. You sit higher and have to take your turns a tad wider, but otherwise the motorhomes drive as easily as a normal car. It even has cruise control and the diesel engine is very economical: over a distance of about 2 500 km, we got an average fuel consumption of 10,8 ℓ/100 km.

On the outside, the Discoverer 4’s pure white finish is impressively streamlined, and it’s only when you take a closer look that you notice the plugs of the electrical connection, the 60 ℓ water tank, and 70 ℓ fuel tank. You’ll also see storage space for two 5 ℓ gas bottles for the stove and geyser, the toilet’s cassette, and two large compartments for your camping chairs, table, braai equipment, and the like.

The Discoverer 4 can accommodate up to four people, which is why there are seat belts for two passengers in the back seat. This seat, right behind the driver, has a table for eating, reading a book, or building a puzzle. At the very back of the motorhome are two more benches with a larger table in between – this is where you sit down for dinner. The tables of both seats fold flat so you have two beds – a double-bed size at the back and a smaller one in the front that’s more suitable for children.

The 80 ℓ refrigerator always stays on, thanks to two deep-cycle batteries in the back of the motorhome, while the geyser uses gas, or 220 V power. When the motorhomes are plugged into a 220 V coupling, you also have a microwave and air con at your disposal.

Furthermore, you don’t have to worry about packing any cutlery, crockery, towels, or bedding, because everything is included when you rent from Bobo. You only bring your clothes and food. And don’t forget to pop a bottle or two in the fridge – there’s nothing quite as lovely as plugging in your motorhome and pouring a cocktail. Especially when you have a different view every night!
