Go! Drive & Camp

This must stop

- PETER COLE

You published a letter of mine in the December 2021-January 2022 issue, in which I complained about people who leave their rubbish lying about in the Kruger National Park. One of the hyenas next to the road was chewing on a plastic bottle.

I’m afraid things have not yet changed. We recently spend time in the Kruger for two weeks, and this time we first camped at Maroela – close to the Orpen Gate – in our Bush Lapa. From there, we headed to one of our favourite campsites, Letaba. We like to stop on the bridge that crosses the river of the same name because there’s a good chance of spotting wildlife from there. Unfortunately, there were two empty wine bottles lying on the riverbed. It’s unlikely they washed up there; someone threw them off the bridge, for sure.
