Campsites with a view

-

Be prepared to get wet if you want to camp in Namibia’s summer rainy season, but the rewards are great. The south is full of campsites with beautiful views – they become even more spectacular during a thunderstorm. Here is a list of the campsites with the very best views.

Mount D’Urban C14

Each of the 10 stands at the foot of the mountain of the same name has its own bathroom, canopy, and braai area. The sunset from your camp chair or one of the lookout points near the camp is exceptional.

Namtib D707

There’s a reason why this campsite is a firm favourite among 4x4 travellers: from the camp you can watch gemsbok graze on the plains with the dunes of the Namib Desert far in the background. Pure bliss.

Landsberg C27

This campsite is quite secluded, but definitely worth the 25 km drive if you want peace and quiet. What’s more, the stands are large and new, each with its own bathroom and a neat, covered veranda. And you have a view of a watering hole with the Tiras Mountain in the background. Contact 00264 83 783 7037 or farmlandsberg.com

NamibRand Family Hideout C27

Each of the three private camps (own ablutions and solar power) has its own amazing views of the Namib Desert’s dunes. Photographers love camping here, so you can rest assured there’s remarkable scenery.

At Kronenhof C27

At Kronenhof ’s four campsites (each with a private bathroom) are far apart and overlook a mountainous landscape that stretches in all directions. Set up camp and watch the thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Namib’s Valley of a Thousand Hills C26

As soon as you arrive at the lodge, you see how it got its name. From the guest farm’s highest hill, you look out over a landscape dotted with mountains. It’s a fantastic location for a campsite –all the more so when the summer rains bring colour to the world.
