COMPASS OFF-ROAD TRAILERS

-

The Rustenburg-based off-road caravan builder Compass is one of the newer manufacturers that initially started with two models: the 2 Sleeper and the 4 Sleeper. The difference between the two, as their names suggest, is an extra double bed that folds out from the 4 Sleeper’s right panel.

Now, Compass has added two more models, and the series gets new names: the 2 Sleeper becomes the Renoster, and the 4 Sleeper the Seekoei. The newcomers are called the Rooikat and Gemsbok.

Basic construction remains unchanged on all models, especially in terms of the kitchen and the fold-out bed up front. Instead of the Seekoei’s second bed, the Rooikat gets a bench set with a table in the middle – these then also create a third bed. The panel from which the Seekoei’s bed folds out still has a door, but it opens horizontally to form a canopy above the window with mesh in the opening. A canvas curtain extends from the door’s edge downwards to block the sun and rain.

At this year’s expo, Compass showed off the Gemsbok – it gets an extra door that gives access to a new bathroom tent that mounts against the hull. The inline gas geyser with its shower head extension is in the cabinet above the right wheel. There’s also space for a cassette toilet.

Standard items include a 270° awning, 5 ℓ gas geyser, two-burner gas stove, a 3 and 5 kg gas cylinder, indoor basin, indoor and outdoor lights, a highdensity sponge mattress, a sliding frame that can fit a 90 ℓ National Luna fridge/freezer, and the fold-out bed.
