Mahindra makeover
The brand-new XUV700 and latest Scorpio were launched at the end of June at the Gerotek test facilities outside Pretoria.
“The XUV700 marks the beginning of the next generation of sophisticated and authentic Mahindra SUVs that will offer an adrenaline rush like never before,” says Sachin Arolkar, Head of International Operations: Automotive Division of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.
The XUV700 is powered by a 2 ℓ turbopetrol engine with
147 kW and 380 Nm of torque, and a 2,2 ℓ turbodiesel one with 136 kW and 450 Nm – both with a six-speed automatic or manual gearbox.
The other newcomer is the latest Scorpio, which looks very different to its predecessor. Although it seems smaller at first glance, its body is actually larger than before and seven adults fit relatively comfortably in the vehicle.
“Our decision to include South Africa in the global reveal of the Scorpio-N is a clear sign of our commitment to the country as our second home outside of India. Mahindra South Africa is regularly on the list of fastest growing SUV and bakkie brands in the country and we look forward to introducing our nextgeneration models here and welcome more South Africans to the Mahindra family,” said Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra SA.
The Scorpio is powered by a 2 ℓ TGDi-m Stallion petrol engine with 149 kW and 380 Nm of torque, and a 2,2 ℓ mHawk diesel engine (128 kW and 400 Nm).
The XUV700 and Scorpio aren’t available in South Africa yet, and prospective buyers can only expect them later this year – prices will also be announced then.
In June, at the same event, Mahindra unveiled its new logo. The so-called “Twin Peaks” are exclusively for Mahindra’s SUVs and lifestyle bakkies, while other Mahindra products will retain the older badge.
