Raasblaar heads Down Under

-

A small local off-road caravan perfect for the African bush is heading to the outback. The Raasblaar, built by Equip 4 Africa in Centurion, will be exported to Australia from September this year.

Co-owner Andries Bruwer says the idea of exports took hold during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Australians get the same Raasblaar we know, except for Australian electric plugs and a name change: there it will be sold as the Overlander.

Equip 4 Africa, who has a dealership in Gauteng and one in the Western Cape, also gets a rental component. So, if you don’t own an off-road caravan, you can rent a fully equipped Raasblaar for R900 per day. It sleeps two inside, and if your party is bigger than two, there is also a rooftop tent. There is no minimum rental period and the paperwork is in order should you want to take it across the border. The Raasblaar has a gross vehicle mass of 1 600 kg, which means that your towing vehicle must have a tare weight of at least 1 600 kg (and the driver an EB driving license).

The Raasblaar was launched in 2018 and production started in 2019. In 2021, they sold 38 units, and according to Andries, they are well on track to reach this year’s target of 48 (exports excluded).
