The Turks land in Pretoria

-

Pretoria’s Caravan Fitment Centre has just acquired the rights to import Caretta caravans from Turkey. Caretta has several models, and four will be brought here. They will be available at Pretoria Caravans.

According to Michael Barwise, co-owner of Pretoria Caravans and distributor, the idea was to look at light caravans from elsewhere. The three models currently on display are the Uncle, Junior and Off Road. The Uncle and Junior are road caravans with fixed roofs and boast luxuries including interior bathrooms. The Uncle is for four people and the Junior for two, while the Off Road is a typical teardrop.

A bonus is that you can tow the caravans with a normal driver’s license – the Uncle, for example, has a GVM of 740 kg, and it’s also equipped with a brake system which, together with the axle, is rated for 1 000 kg. This means you can tow the Uncle with some of the smallest vehicles on the market. Standard fittings include a 60 A battery with charger, single-burner gas hob with a sink and a 60 ℓ fridge (220 V). The Off Road has a GVM of 750 kg with similar standard accessories.

Even though the caravans are imported, there’s no excessive waiting period. The idea is to have stock on the floor, says Michael.

In any case, it only takes three weeks to build a caravan. The shipment takes 20 days to Durban, and a realistic waiting time is therefore 2-3 months. The caravans are fully imported – the only adaptation made in Turkey for our market is the electrical plugs.

Michael also imports accessories for ongoing maintenance, and all caravans have a full Al-Ko chassis. Of course, Al-Ko has an extensive local network, which means you can get help immediately in case something needs attention. Price Prices will be announced shortly.
