Go! Drive & Camp

Keep it simple

If you’re looking for a basic camping trailer that has a safe place to sleep on top, a fridge/freezer and a decent awning, the new AGV Traveler is right up your alley, says Leon Botha.

-

The Traveler is Awnings Galore Vaal’s first camping trailer. The business belongs to Barney and Nikki van der Merwe and they focus, among other things, on camping and 4x4 canvans awnings. Their expertise also includes rooftop tents, which means manufacturing a camping trailer is a natural next step.

From the side

The rooftop tent is 1,3 x 2,2 m in size and has a door on the right as you stand behind the Traveler. You climb up to the bed using a 1,7 m ladder. Inside is a USB port in case you add a power hub in the future.

On the same side, a jerrycan container is mounted on top of the mudguard.

The nose cone has room for a battery, and at the back a large door folds down. This gives you access to the sliding frame and four ammo boxes. There is also open storage space under the sliding frame for bulky camping gear.

The fridge/freezer (a 95 ℓ Flex) pulls out from the left side of the hull close to the nose cone. A gas cylinder holder (for cylinders of up to 5 kg) sits next to it on top of the mudguard for a loose-standing gas burner.

The L-shaped awning opens over the entire back and left side, and has stainless steel poles. It can withstand winds of up to 20 km/h without any reinforcement, but use loose aluminium support poles and the anchor ropes if the wind starts getting out of hand.

Burquip builds the chassis, and the hull consists of spray-painted steel sheet.

What comes standard?

The following items are included in the standard price: the rooftop tent with USB socket; mattress and 1,7 m ladder; awning with support poles and anchor ropes; 95 ℓ Flex fridge/freezer on a sliding frame; four ammo boxes, also on a sliding frame; a jerrycan container; gas cylinder holder; and the nose cone.
