Go! Drive & Camp

Caring is sharing

-

It wasn’t long after Naas and Melanie Rautenbach bought their land – just over 20 ha – before they decided to share it with others. The idea was to create a own weekend getaway, but a properly equiped caravan park was born.

The Klipspringerkloof Bush Camp lies 3,5 km north-east of the Dinokeng reserve in Gauteng. They built the place from the ground up – in 2019, the couple decided to also build a chalet for friends. If you have a farm, everyone comes to visit, says Melanie – so much so that some of the friends suggested they establish a caravan park. Naas worked on this…. and it was ready for guests in September 2022.

The centrepiece is the pool with immitation rock finish, surrounded by five stands. The stands are connected by a beautiful gravel path that’s rounded off with an equally neat kerb.

Each stand is paved, and you have your own boma with a fire pit and braai area.

Stones from the area were used for your own stylish and tiled bathroom building, each with a basin, loo and shower. Gas geysers provide hot water.

It’s those very stones that led to the name of the caravan park: Naas and his staff would drive out to the rocky ridges to collect stones, and the ride was so bumpy that they were reminded of a small, sturdy antelope called a klipspringer (or

Oreotragus). And at the far end of the farm you look down over a beautiful gorge…

The campsite was full almost from the start, and they added five more stands around the existing ones. Here you don’t have paving, but a block with gravel on which you park your caravan. You also have your own bathroom, but not at your stand. The bathrooms for stands 6-8 are in a building between 7 and 8, and stands 9 and 10 share the building that’s between the two. These ones have electric geysers.

The power point at your stand is a standard domestic three-point socket, and free WiFi keeps you up to date with your family and the world.

Some of the game farms in the area have lowered fences, and therefore the wildlife moves around freely – animals including giraffes, kudu, ostriches, nyalas, zebra, warthogs, porcupines and waterbuck.

Campers are welcome to go walking or cycling – you get a route map. However a game drive in your own vehicle is prohibited.

The last 7 km to Klipspringerkloof is a gravel road that the residents of the area maintain themselves.

Price R460 pn per stand for up to four people (R560 on weekends).
