New life in Lefokeng

-

The Lefokeng Bush Camp is a fenced campsite within the boundaries of the Dinokeng reserve, Gauteng, and the new owner, Gerhard Mulder, has breathed new life into the place.

The larger grounds are 21 ha of which 1,5 ha is fenced with twelve stands inside. They’re spaced out and named after wild animals. These include the names Duiker, Lion and Buffalo, with no electricity on any of the stands except for Kudu. You therefore camp semi-selfsufficient, because the facilities include a bathrooms and a swimming pool.

Something unusual here are the open spaces at the stands. Obviously these are cleared patches between the Bushveld trees, but most of them are big enough to accommodate two off-road camping trailers. So it’s the perfect spot to share a campsite with friends in the bush, with everyone bringing their own camping equipment. Where usually six people are allowed per stand, Lefokeng allows eight.

Each stand has a brick braai with its own grid, and the taps – borehole water – have just been installed.

A fire pit and picnic area is right by the gate as you drive in with the pool next door. It’s a paved area with a canopy for shade next to it. The ablution block is also here with its four family bathrooms. Each has a shower, basin and loo, with the dish-washing facility on the outside. Gas geysers provide the hot water and Gerhard plans to set up private facilities at four of the stands. Power points at some of the other sites are also planned.

Price R400 pn per stand for up to four people. R100 pp for the next four (kids under 12 free). Kudu stand: R500.
