On manoeuvres

-

To thoroughly test the Recce, we towed it across the border to neighbouring Mozambique and tackled the most difficult sand, stone and dirt roads we could find. The Recce’s air suspension is impressive, and even though our towing vehicle would get tossed around on a rocky mountain pass, the Recce floated unperturbed behind us. On the pass in question (see page 58), the AL-KO overrun brake prevented the Recce from pushing our towing vehicle downhill.

Its huge Cooper Discoverer STT Pro tyres were larger than those of our towing vehicle and easily rolled through mud and over rocks. At around 1,4 tonnes, the Recce is, however, a proverbial tank and our Isuzu battled to pull it through the deep, loose sand at the ruins of the Chongoene Hotel near Xai-xai.
