Go! Drive and Camp Camp Guide

The field kitchen

A food cupboard is behind a lockable door on the left side of the Recce. There are three shelves for tinned food, a work surface that drops down, and pockets in which you can store dry supplies such as pasta. Don’t, however, place eggs on the shelves and then go on a 4x4 drive – we learnt this lesson the hard way.

To the right of the food cupboard is a 220 V socket to connect to a resort’s power grid via an extension cord, and underneath it is a toolbox (with a padlock). And to the left of the cupboard is a pressure pump with a filter to increase the internal air pressure so dust cannot enter while towing on a dirt road.

Below the pressure pump are three domestic power sockets. Then follows the left-hand door – inside are shoe pockets, a drinks cabinet and extra storage for oft-used items.

Finally, at the front of the Recce is a hatch from which you pull a drawer with a fridge/ freezer, a two-plate stove, crockery and cutlery, a mixer tap and two basins.

There are two nose cone trunks: the larger one has a volume of 450 ℓ and has doors (with locks) on either side – behind the door is a compressor for the Recce’s air suspension with which you can also inflate tyres.

Here you’ll also find a spade and a gas geyser – the rest is available space for extra tenting. On the outside of the door is an axe (we would rather have had it inside the door) that is secured with a small padlock.

The smaller nose cone (also with padlocks) has two gas cylinders that you can take out to connect to the geyser and stove, or you can leave them here and permanently route the gas pipes to the cylinders.

The jockey wheel can be unclamped and stored inside one of the nose cone boxes. There is also a tap (cold water only) on the A-frame.

The A-frame has no apparent recovery hardpoints and it is hard to find a good place where you could attach a winch cable without damaging either the clevis hook or the caravan.
