A HUGELY suc­cess­ful an­nual Reach for a Dream Choco­late break­fast took place re­cently at 2 Swans, rais­ing more than R90 000 for the Reach for a Dream Foun­da­tion.

Spon­sored by Den­nis Collins Jew­ellers, more than 200 guests en­joyed a hearty break­fast as well as de­li­cious choco­lates and sweet treats at the event.

The Reach for a Dream Foun­da­tion is ded­i­cated to ful­fill­ing the dreams of chil­dren with lifethreat­en­ing dis­eases.

The min­i­mum cost for one child’s dream is R3 800, mak­ing this event vi­tal and one of the foun­da­tion’s big­gest donors.

Na­tion­ally recog­nised baker and guest baker on South Africa’s Ex­presso show, Gabriella Esposito, was the guest speaker of the day.

Esposito shared her choc­a­holic jour­ney with guests, ex­plain­ing her pas­sions and dreams and how she fol­lowed them to be where she is to­day.

Esposito stud­ied a di­ploma in Fine Art Pho­tog­ra­phy. Through­out her col­lege years, Esposito es­tab­lished her on­line bak­ing blog, “bake­by­gabi”, wrote, de­signed and pho­tographed a cook book, and ap­peared as a guest baker on the Ex­presso show for the first time.

Com­ing from an Ital­ian fam­ily of chefs, where life re­volves around food and meal times, Esposito re­gards her “One and Only Choco­late cake” as the driv­ing force be­hind her suc­cesses.

“Quite lit­er­ally, my story would not have been pos­si­ble with­out choco­late,” Esposito said.

Af­ter win­ning third place in the Sunday Times Food weekly com­pe­ti­tion with her fa­mous choco­late cake in 2013, Esposito was rec­om­mended to the Ex­presso pro­duc­ers by the ed­i­tor. Four years later, Esposito is the per­ma­nent guest baker on the Ex­presso show.

She has also been in­volved with var­i­ous char­ity or­gan­i­sa­tions in­clud­ing Side­walk Spe­cials, as well as var­i­ous soup kitchens and safe houses.

The young baker hopes to launch her own or­gan­i­sa­tion soon, in the hopes of help­ing as many peo­ple as she can.

“I am so hon­oured to be the guest speaker and support this won­der­ful or­gan­i­sa­tion make chil­dren’s dreams come true.”

The event saw Esposito demon­strate how to make an al­co­holic hot choco­late and a few guests were lucky enough to taste the or­ange liqueur-in­fused drink.

Lucky-draw and raf­fle prizes in­cluded two of Esposito’s cook books, as well as var­i­ous week­end get­aways do­nated by guest houses and re­sorts along the Wild Coast.

The grand prize in the lucky draw was a pair of Den­nis Collins Jew­ellers tan­zan­ite ear­rings worth R21 000. Through ticket sales, raf­fle ticket sales and in­di­vid­ual do­na­tions, a to­tal R97500 was raised for the Reach for a Dream Foun­da­tion.

“We are very happy to be sup­port­ing such a wor­thy cause and con­tribut­ing to the ful­fil­ment of so many dreams. We are ex­tremely grate­ful to ev­ery­one who made this day pos­si­ble,” Den­nis Collins said.
