Concert fundraiser for Angel

- THANDEKA NTLONTI

POPULAR Afrikaans gospel and country singer, Manie Jackson will be performing in a special fundraiser in East London on Saturday.

The double platinum and triple gold award winner together with Angel de Lange will be on stage at the Quigney Baptist Church to support Veronica Esterhuizen.

Out of the goodness of his heart Jackson agreed to perform to raise funds to pay for Veronica to start dialysis and hopefully get a kidney transplant.

Veronica was diagnosed with FSGS stage 4 kidney failure and only has 7% kidney function left, in addition to that she has Lupus. She has started with dialysis but being a private patient the costs are too much.

The family will be tested to see if one of them might be a suitable match for donate a kidney. For this procedure, in total they will need R300000 and so far they have raised R8 000. The family hope that the concert is well-attended so that more money can be raised.

“This is the least I can do for my wife. This show is our best hope and shot at raising funds for her to go on dialysis and possibly get a kidney transplant,” said husband, Deon Esterhuizen, who is also a musician.

Jackson was approached to have a fundraiser by the family and he agreed to have it at no cost to the family.

When the GO! & Express visited Veronica last week she said she was very grateful for the support thus far. “The support has been exceptionally outstanding and my husband has done everything that he can.

“I’m also grateful to Manie and Angela who have come forward to give us a free show. I am hoping that with those funds I will have a kidney transplant,” Veronica said.

Veronica went on to say that people should be more aware of kidney failure. “There are so many people waiting and who are in need of kidneys and the waiting lists are long,” she added.

Tickets for the show are available at the Heavenly Pancake House in Gonubie and at Lee Gold Music at R100 for adults and R50 for children under 12.
