Working for the needy

Mdantsane-based Real View Foundation is a non-profit organisation that focuses on vulnerable children, while also catering for senior citizens.

Real View’s founder, Bulelani Fowl, said the foundation’s main goal was to help needy people in the community.

“Six years ago, I resigned from work to make a difference in the community.

“I didn't even talk to my family regarding my resignation. Every month, I would spend half of my salary on the donations I would give to the needy.

“I came up with an idea for this foundation after seeing that there are young children who go to school on empty stomachs and some of them do not have any school essentials,” Fowl said.

He said he finally registered the organisation last year and Build It sponsored the construction of a centre for them in January this year.

“We cook three times a day from Monday to Friday and buy uniforms and other essentials for those who are in need.

“We also make sure the elderly people are living a healthy lifestyle,” Fowl said.

“Last week, we had a pageant for the elderly women, Miss Real View Foundation 2018, in celebration of Women’s Day.

“The idea was to create a positive and active attitude towards ageing.”

Fowl said some of the people who he helped had come to the centre voluntarily, and he met others while doing house visits.

“There are about six members in the foundation, and Build It and Highway SUPERSPAR support us by providing us with food on a weekly basis,” he said.
