Vocal artist cruises along many paths

- AMANDA NANO

Talented East London songstress Megan Francis continues to impress crowds with her amazing voice.

Francis is a talented vocalist who entertained crowds on cruise ships over a span of 3½ years before returning to East London.

“I sang on a ship as well as being part of the cruise choir. I was also involved with the entertainment team to make sure the shows were up and running,” she said.

Since her return, she has been an MC at a number of local events, as well as a guest vocalist at a recent holiday club showcase (“Dance club stays in step”, July 6).

Coming back home meant a career change and she currently works as a vocal coach at Legends School of Contemporary Music in Baysville.

“My career has taken a direction towards the development of musical talent and I especially enjoy working with the young artists,” she said.

She added that seeing the young artists grow was amazing and she encouraged them to “utilise the East London resources”.

Francis has also been involved with her one-woman cabaret show A Song For You, which formed part of the Umtiza Arts Festival line-up this year.

“I'm re-launching this show with the aim of taking it around the country and would love for it to be part of the National Arts Festival next year,” Francis said.

This busy lady is also part of the Off Broadway musical production called I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change which will take place in September at the Guild Theatre.

Her advice to all aspiring musicians is for them to find someone local and get help with their craft.

“They should network and not be isolated. The African continent is so rich and they should use this as an inspiration,” she said.
