SPORTS HUB LAUNCHES
A variety of fun activities are lined up for the launch of the Breidbach Community Sports Hub this weekend.
According to BCSH secretary Sean Carelse, the various activities included indigenous games, touch rugby, a football marathon, action cricket, fast five netball and action hockey. “We are excited about the event and call on the entire community to attend in their numbers as there will be something for everyone,” Carelse said.
BCSH founder Desmond Coetzee said he was over the moon with the assistance and support of his committee.
“The hub was formed two years ago, and for the first year, it was always difficult to organise huge events due to a lack of interest from the community.
“As time went by, however, it grew and today I can proudly say we have members with the experience and expertise to share on any sporting code or recreational game,” Coetzee said.
“Through hub festivals, which we are planning to host once per month, we are striving to build an active nation through community sport programmes.
“We will also provide a home for individuals who enjoy being active, as well as groups, schools or colleges, clubs, local sport organisations and sport and recreation structures,” Coetzee said.
Carelse said local sport heroes were invited as special guests and the community would be introduced to the hub committee members.
The event starts at 9am and the closing ceremony is scheduled for 6pm.
