Cultural celebration of note
Mdantsane non-profit organisation Project Khulisanani (PK) is holding its second annual Buya’Mbo Cultural Celebration on Sunday at Mthombo's Palace The Restro Lounge, in Mdantsane’s NU7.
PK founder Bohlale Buzani said September was the month when South Africans celebrated their heritage.
“This year, through the Buya’Mbo Cultural Celebration, we want to show you cannot separate the spirit of ubuntu from who we are.”
The GO! reported earlier this year (“Putting back pride in pupils' steps”, February 22) about PK handing over more than 200 pairs of school shoes to pupils from five schools at Mdantsane City Mall.
Buzani said the organisation was started a year ago to raise funds for school essentials, such as shoes and uniforms, but it soon expanded with a vision of implementing programmes that will contribute to the inclusive development of the community at large.
“The primary purpose of this event is to raise funds for the initiative although this is not the sole purpose,” Buzani said.
“We are also able to bring the community together to celebrate their heritage and promote their unique roots.
“This event also creates a platform for local performers to showcase their different talents and skills. It gives them exposure to the public and an opportunity to be seen by the different stakeholders involved who can then invest in them and help cultivate that specific talent or skill.”
The event consists of performances in traditional dancing, poetry, singing as well as showcases in traditional garments and designs, bead work, wood crafting and other art work.
“This event will strongly promote arts, culture and heritage. It opens doors for entrepreneurs to have stalls to sell their merchandise,” said Buzani.
“Tickets are R50 from Mthombo’s Palace The Restro Lounge and Computicket or R70 at the gate.”
