Lovers of dance can look forward to Kings and Queens of Street Dance Monti that will take place at Mdantsane Indoor Sports Centre on October 6.

Organiser Lumko Dukashe said the competition was aimed at those aged 18 to 35.

“There is so much talent in our townships and I just want to put it out there,” Dukashe said.

Dukashe was a producer for the five-time South African Film and Television Awards (Safta) winning show Tsha Tsha in 2006, together with his wife, Luleka, who is a two-time Safta nominee for costume design.

Those wanting to compete, must upload a video of themselves onto the Facebook page “Kings and Queens of Street Dance Monti” and the videos with the most likes will qualify for the competition.

“We wanted to use the technological and social aspect this particular age group are familiar with,” he said.

If you can’t upload to Facebook, entries will also be accepted on the day between 10am and 12pm

DJ Slujah of Umhlobo Wenene FM, DJ Lentor SA and DJ Setman are but a few confirmed to spin the decks. Winners will receive a cash prize of R5,000.
