STUDENT DISCOVERS LOVE OF BOWLS
Xanti Xanywa’s favourite sports used to be hockey and waterpolo, but now it’s bowls.
The grade 9 Dale College pupil was introduced to the sport two months ago by fellow schoolmate Josh Turner, who also gave him a brief coaching session.
“I enjoyed my first game. I felt I did well so decided to keep playing.
“I like the social side of the game and it’s really a fun but challenging sport,” Xanywa said.
Xanywa said his father Thamile, who is a traffic officer, had told him he wanted to try out bowls next year.
His dream is that he is chosen for one of the Border teams which annually travel to Bloemfontein, where a national development tournament is held each year.
When Xanywa is not playing for Dale’s Under 16B hockey team and U15A waterpolo team, one can hardly keep the young man off the green.
