Health day boost
Buffalo City Municipality health department MEC Helen Sauls- August attended the Mandela-Castro Thuma’ mina Community Wellness Programme last Saturday at the Leaches Bay sports field.
Hundreds of community members attended the day to access doctors, specialists, nurses, optometrists and counselling programmes that are normally not available to them.
The programme was led by ANC ward 36 members.
Sauls-August said the municipality was struggling with funding at the moment “but that doesn’t stop us [BCM] from bringing life to our people”.
“We know very well there is no clinic here in Leaches Bay. People have to take transport to Greenfields Clinic, some are walking because they can’t afford taxi fare,” Sauls-August said.
Buffalo City environment auditors were also present, checking and testing water and pollution levels.
Sauls-August told the GO! & Express that the aim of the Wellness Programme, which was launched in April 2018, was to visit each BCM branch, focusing on those without hospitals and clinics.
