EL Cansa Shavathon a cut above the rest

- AMANDA NANO

The 16th annual Cansa Shavathon was supported by many last Saturday at Vincent Park and Hemingways Mall.

According to the non-profit organisation, losing one’s hair is a common side-effect of treating cancer and the shavathon aims to symbolise support for those affected.

Nate’s Car Sales owner Nathaniel Padayachee helped provide entertainment for the day with various music performers, such as Hasty South and Bhlain.

“This is just us supporting one of many charity events and community outreach programmes which have been assisting East London for many years,” Padayachee said.

The shavathon was open to schools, work places or oragnisations to take part in raising funds for the organisation.

For those not wanting to shave, a sprayathon or donation were welcome.

The talented musos who performed at the shavathon will also be present at the upcoming Cansa Relay for Life.

The community can take part in the overnight relay with teams of 10 to 15 people – with one team member on the track – which symbolises that cancer never sleeps.

These events aim to raise awareness about the disease and help fight it.

The marathon starts from Saturday March 9 to Sunday March 10 from 5pm to 6am at the Jan Smuts Stadium.
