Three young students from Sharon’s Art School have received international recognition at an art competition held in China recently.

The children were entered into the 49th annual World School Children’s Art Exhibition in 2018, with only five entries from SA. Altogether 41 countries took part in the competition with a committee of 29 judges.

Stirling Primary School Grade 3 pupil Ella Bartlett won gold with her drawing “A Ride on a Friendly Giraffe”.

“I feel happy, good and proud. The drawing is of me riding a giraffe with my little brother watching,” she said.

Stirling Primary grade 2 pupil Daniel Smith’s “A Ride on a Bird” won a silver award.

Receiving a selection certificate mention was Hudson Park Primary grade 1 pupil Sanele Katywa for “My Friend and I Chasing Bubbles”.

Art school owner Sharon Mallinson said they had been entering the competition for 12 years now. “On an international level, it means we’re standing our ground in children’s art and it means we’re on the right track.

“For us to have won two golds and a silver from our little private school in East London, it’s given us some exposure,” Mallinson said.

Also receiving gold was Courtney Sansom, as part of the art school based at Clarendon Primary School.
