Very real Fantasy crown win for Alert
The second Fantasy Indoor Soccer Challenge was under way last Saturday with eight East London teams from the league competing for the grand prize of R10,000.
Alert Engine Parts were crowned champions after beating Aurecon 11-0 in the finals.
“Aurecon muscled their way through group stages and hit a brick wall in the finals. Alert was in the mood today, they showed their dominance right from the start with 80% ball possession,” said league CEO Osher Soetland.
“We are developing a team to play against major teams in other provinces. We are planning to take the two strongest teams to the high level.”
The two teams were selected from members of the eight teams in the tournament.
“There is great potential here in East London. The games were interesting as emotions were high, because everyone was gunning for the grand prize,” said Soetland.
Soetland said they are planning on expanding the league by introducing more activities such as bubble football, foosball and many more.
The Daily Dispatch Breakers Football Club also decided to join the Fantasy Football League, having started a month ago.
Team manager Lutho Zathu said the idea was born in January in order to promote a a healthy lifestyle and fitness.
“It’s based on employee wellness, interdependent cohesion and getting to know employees outside the office,” Zatu said.
Some team members haven’t played the game before, but this didn’t deter them. The team placed fifth on the log out 20.
“Though we suffered a defeat this week by losing against Land Grabbers 11-0, that is not stopping us from fighting for top position in the log,” Zatu said.
