Soundtrack to big dreams

- SIVENATHI GOSA

King William’s Town gospel singer Lusindiso Sajini, 35, has a dream of sharing the stage with renowned South African artists in five years’ time.

Also known as “Sindi”, Sajini started his music career at the age of 11 when he and his friends would perform pop music for the locals.

“I used to sing in the school choir at Lujiza Primary School in Duncan Village.

“In 2001, I won the singing auditions at Destiny Records, which enabled me to record three albums,” said Sajini.

Throughout his 24 years in the music business, Sindi has been performing at taxi ranks to promote his music.

He hires sound systems from his friends and pays them with the proceeds he makes from his performances.

Growing up, Sajini changed from pop to gospel as his father was against pop culture.

“I recorded my first gospel album in 2004, where I was assisted by the late Xolani Mabophe Ncapayi – a well-known gospel singer in the eastern Cape. I was under his mentorship for a year before going solo,” he said.

Though he didn’t have official launches for his previous six albums, Sajini gave street performances across the province.

He has managed to gain an audience of 200 people, and also got the support of well-known gospel artists.

“I have performed at various prestigious events, such as the 2010 Fifa World Cup Fan Park, BCM Carnivals, as well as other gospel shows and churches across the country.

“Throughout my music career, I have shared the stage with almost all the artists in the province.

“I was also nominated in the best traditional gospel album category of the Eastern Cape Music Awards,” he added.

Sajini said he is also assisting five aspiring musicians in finding their path in the music industry.
