Masithethe celebrates 35 years of counselling

- AMANDA NANO

Masithethe Counselling Services celebrated its 35th birthday on Friday.

Formerly known as LifeLine, the organisation has assisted more than 450,000 people in and around the BCM area.

With a satellite office at the Gompo Library and Resource Centre operating from Monday to Wednesday, the organisation hopes to be more accessible, said Masithethe director Jackie Orsmond.

“We decided to open satellite offices as most of the people who access our services are from these areas and it will assist them in transport costs,” Orsmond said.

The organisation is in the process of opening an office in King William's Town and Mdantsane at Notyatyambo Clinic.

“We are in need of a structure to be in place in the grounds at this clinic as they do not have a space for us,” she said.

The organisation offers free counselling to children and adults, trauma and rape counselling, employee wellness programmes and awareness programmes in schools.

“We serve the community by offering these services through social workers, auxilliary social workers, psychology students and well trained lay-counsellors,” Orsmond said.

Anyone or business is looking to assist the organisation can contact the them on 043-722-0000 or send an e-mail to admin@masithethe.co.za.
