Southernwood club helping community get fit

- FAITH MTWANA

The East London Nutrifit Club in Southernwood is running a free programme focused on helping people reach their health and fitness goals through guided gym routines and nutrition.

The programme is open to all members of the public.

Classes are also available for pensioners who want to keep fit and healthy, people who are in rehabilitation and want to stick to a healthy routine, as well as those who are simply looking to work on their fitness.

Tabisa Pupuma, one of the wellness coaches at the club, said the programmes on offer were specifically tailored to help different groups of people, while also focusing on each person’s individual needs.

“Our main focus is to help our communities reach their goals through nutrition programmes, with gym as an added benefit.

“Health and fitness is achieved with 80% nutrition and 20% work out.

“We offer a nutrition evaluation so that you are aware of what your body needs,” said Pupuma.

“The programme is free to the public. This is so that it can be accessible to anyone who needs it.

“The club sells nutrition shakes and healthy meals for those who are looking for a quick breakfast after an early morning gym session.”

Pupuma said the shakes and meals were the main sources of income that the club generated, along with donations they received from happy members. The club is open to all ages. “We’ve had sessions for the little ones to take part in and they enjoyed them very much.

“Teenagers enjoy our programme too, they particularly enjoy the gym sessions because that is where they get to enjoy high-energy workouts,” Pupuma said.

“On some Saturdays they also get to enjoy boot camp exercises at Orient Beach.

“With the underage kids, we encourage the parents to come in and have a look at what we do so they can be aware of what their children are doing.”
