Lively mix of stars for Guild Theatre

Opera's Ncumisa Garishe, pianist Asekho Zani, Marc Lottering, singer Mandisi Dyantyis in store

The East London Guild Theatre is presenting Bocconcini D’Opera as part of a special teaser programme in the buildup to the Umtiza Arts Festival 2022.

The show will feature Ncumisa Garishe, an aspiring young profession­al opera singer from Mdantsane.

Garishe holds an Advanced Diploma in Opera and has sung in production­s showcased by UCT Opera School and Cape Town Opera.

She will be accompanie­d by Asekho Zani, a young pianist from Mdantsane.

Zani has earned himself national recognitio­n and has participat­ed as the official pianist at various choral festivals.

The show will include music selected by Garishe from composers such as Verdi, Price, Puccini and Handel, to name a few.

Another teaser for the Umtiza Festival is Uncle Marc – a new stand-up comedy by Marc Lottering.

Lottering, who has been in the industry for more than 20 years and has performed in London, Australia and Dubai, is taking his show nationwide.

He will be bringing his act to East London on March 26, before heading off to the rest of the country. The show is not suitable for children.

Some of the other shows set for the Guild Theatre this month include The Mnyama Experience, by award-winning musician Amanda Black.

The show will feature Black reflecting on her five years in the industry, as she sings songs from her three albums, Amazulu, Power and her latest offering Mnyama.

The dress code for the event is All Black Everything. The show runs for two nights only, on March 18 and 19.

Mandisi Dyantyis is set to make his East London debut, performing a mix of some of his older compositio­ns from the

Somandla album, as well as some new material from his incredible recent release, Cwaka.

The full band will perform, with Dyantyis on vocals and trumpet, Buddy Wells on saxophone, Lonwabo Mafani on piano, Kevin Gibson on drums and Steve DeSousa on double bass. No children are allowed.

The dates for the show are March 25 and 26.

The Buffalo City Praise Encounter CD launch will take place on March 27.

The show will feature celebrated gospel artists and a surprise guest artist.
