Orion Educare Centre offers children extra attention, wider choices

- FAITH MTWANA

Orion Educare Centre in East London provides learning support to pupils individually as well as in a group setting.

The centre provides experienced tutors to help pupil with subject-specific support, providing grade- specific classes and teaching material from the CAPS curriculum.

The application process is simple. Parents are required to register with Impaq as well as the Department of Education to ensure all guidelines for homeschooling are adhered to.

There are no uniform expenses and because all material is provided by the centre, there are no textbook expenses either. Pupils are also offered a large variety of extra-curricular activities including cookery and kitchen practice, health and fitness awareness, recycling, entrepreneurial skills, money management, urban farming and ecoenvironmental awareness

One of the exciting programmes on offer is Robotics and Coding.

These are advanced programmes that have been simplified for the pupils to learn through online lessons and inperson lessons from the tutors.

This is a subject that is not offered in mainstream education and provides pupils with advanced knowledge in these complex subjects.

The centre is yet to offer classes for pupils beyond grade 7, however that is something the centre is looking into. Research and work has already been conducted to ensure that services are offered to high school grades soon.

Other services offered by Orion are the holiday club, homework centre and extra lessons in any of the subjects offered.

The centre is situated in a quiet area in Cambridge, in a safe and familyorientated environment with space for the pupils to play freely.

Each grade has a classroom with no more than 10 pupils in a class.

This allows children to receive individual attention from their tutor and ensures engagement from the pupils with all the tasks they do in the classroom.
