Steady progress in EL beachfront flagship projects, BCMDA says
The Buffalo City Metropolitan Development Agency recently celebrated World Water Day with an update on the construction of the Waterworld development project in Leaches Bay, West Bank.
The Waterworld Fun Park is fuly funded by Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality.
The project was launched by the Buffalo City executive mayor Xola Pakati, BCMDA CEO Bulumko Nelana and BCMDA board members in February 2020.
“When completed, this project will provide an unrivalled water park entertainment experience, a first for the Eastern Cape province. The Buffalo City
Metro Development Agency has invested R103m into the project to further develop and diversify the tourism and entertainment offerings of the city,” said BCMDA spokesperson Oyama Makalima.
“Its implementation and development forms part of the city’s wider vision to grow its tourism sector.
“The investment by the city also aims to revitalise property development in the West Bank area, which has immense real estate development potential given its scenic, wide sea-facing views.
“This massive 5.9-hectare project will feature facilities that include stateof-the-art swimming pools, climbing walls, a skate park, an amphitheatre, braai areas, and much more,” he said.
Pakati said: “We believe the
Waterworld project will breathe new life into our public spaces and it will stimulate the local economy in ways never seen before.”
On social media, the mayor announced that development of the Court Crescent Project on the Eastern beachfront was progressing.
“The roads have been completed and they already provide a nice flow for our residents who commute for work and leisure along our beachfront. “
Pakati said the project would beautify the area for tourism and people living in nearby properties.
“We are pushing for the completion of this project with speed but we also do not want to compromise quality. The BCMDA is making great strides in implementing its mandate,” he said.
