The Body Culture Team hosted a hugely successful 12-hour spinathon last Saturday in aid of The Kings Children’s Home.

In total, a whopping R115,000 was raised, with amazing assistance from doTERRA Essential Oils.

The spinathon stemmed from an idea among a few Body Culture spinning buddies (Alan Wild, Frances Smith, Shirley Sergel and Garret Smit) who pitched the idea to Mike Ott and his team to host a fun fitness event while raising funds to give back to the East London community.

“With the global pandemic events of the past two years almost behind us, we recognised the need and desire for people to come together and participate for a worthy cause,” Ott said.

Fast forward four months later, with phenomenal support from local businesses and individuals alike, the spinathon evolved into an epic event that way surpassed all expectations on all levels.

“Imagine 12 hours of non-stop partying and dancing to all your favourite tunes while pedalling for a purpose on the bike.

“The event encompassed everything that we strive for at Body Culture … bringing young and old together as a family through exhilarating exercise.”

In total, 40 bikes were fully booked for the 12 hours, with different instructors and guests entertaining the spinners with their various playlists and themes.

Special guest Brett Armstrong, well-known for his previous 48-hour spinathons, brought his magic and stirred emotions of nostalgia with a few of his favourite tracks and crowd interactions.

From the team of organisers, the phenomenal instructors and special guests, the corporate sponsors, all the volunteers and every individual who participated or supported … they all made it possible and certainly touched the lives of all at Kings Children’s Home.
