Berea’s The Back Yard, in partnership with Big Mouth Entertainment introduced Cape Town’s funniest former teacher, Dalin Oliver to local audiences on March 22.

The show was the first of a series of sets by national and local comedians to follow in the months ahead.

Oliver is a 13-year veteran in the industry and has been featured on Comedy Central.

He made his movie debut in the SA action comedy, Finders Keepers.

Some of his most popular shows include I Came, I Taught, I Left, Face For Radio and Happy Hour, a weekly comedy radio show.

Oliver also recently celebrated 10 years as a sports presenter on Good Hope FM.

“I’m so excited to be back in East London.

“I last performed in your beautiful city in about 2013/14.

“I was still fairly new to the industry and opening for Stuart Taylor and Riaad Moosa.

“This is the start of me coming back to perform more regularly,” said Oliver.

He has enjoyed a significant amount of successful moments in his career, including sharing the stage with fellow SA comedians Yaaseen Barnes, Carl Weber and Kagiso Mokgadi in the award winning ensemble stand-up comedy show, Day Zero: The Water Shortage Tour.

Oliver, who is also the recipient of the 2022 Standard Bank Ovation Award, has a special brand of comedy that appeals to all South Africans in a way that invites unity and laughter.

“Based on the reviews and audience interactions over 13 years in the industry, my style has been described as easily accessible, diverse, charming, energetic, and most importantly funny.

“Honestly, by the end of the night we’re going to be best friends. I’m not saying that you’re going to invite me to your house immediately but you going to invite me to a family braai over the holidays.” he said.

Oliver is a hilarious comedian who seems to find it easy to use his audience interactions as part of his show.

He has excellent skills of being able to come up with the funny jokes on the spot. If you attend one of Oliver’s shows, be warned, every single audience member will be subjected to his jokes throughout the show.

His jokes ranged from potholes, to the Springboks and various other relatable scenarios.

The audience at The Back Yard was quite diverse and provided Oliver with lots to joke about.
