1,000 school shoes for EL children
Motor group, food supplier team up to make a difference
Earlier this year, Meyers Motors Group participated in a citywide back to school event which enabled them to provide school shoes and other school items to pupils.
In partnership with Nick’s Foods East London, Meyers Motors was able to donate 1,000 brand-new school shoes and distribute them to five local primary schools in the Pefferville and Buffalo Flats communities.
Additional shoes have also been distributed to Mthatha, Qonce and Komani.
Meyers Motors’ marketing manager Natelie Kriel said: “Nick’s Food East London reached out to us to assist with distribution to the community.
“After a successful back to school campaign in the beginning of the year, they were able to get hold of some more stock for the local community.
“Meyers Motors has a close relationship with various schools and early childhood development centres as we are passionate about education.
“It was an absolute pleasure
assisting Wouter and his team to identify needy schools within their primary area,” Kriel said.
Nick’s Food East London general manager Wouter van der Berg said the initiative went well and he and his
team were open to similar future endeavours.
“We are very happy to have been involved with this project.
“We often have specials running around back to school promotions with school shoes.
“This is a national promotion,” Van der Berg said.
“This time we had an excess amount of shoes and we decided that the best way for us to handle the shoes would be to get in touch with Meyers Motors.
“We decided it would be the easiet way for us to get exposure and also help the community.
“We would love to do more projects like this but it all depends on how much shoes we have.
“If it is possible in the future, we will definitely do it again,” Van der Berg said.
Meyers Motors has always been committed to keeping children in school and ensuring that boys and girls are comfortable throughout their schooling.
Last year, the company hosted a sanitary pad drive, particularly aimed at school girls at various primary and high schools in the BCM area.
