Quiet after the harvesting storm

I took this photo at Somersverd­riet farm along the N7 more or less between Moorreesbu­rg and Piketberg, shortly after the wheat had been harvested. The mountain on the left is called the Swartberg, and it looks particular­ly dark in this picture because it was almost completely devastated by a fire in 2016 (the first to occur there in almost 80 years). But the veld tends to appear darker in the Swartland than elsewhere because of the region’s unique – and highly threatened – renosterve­ld. Read more about this at Swartland Botanics. >
