Quiet after the harvesting storm
I took this photo at Somersverdriet farm along the N7 more or less between Moorreesburg and Piketberg, shortly after the wheat had been harvested. The mountain on the left is called the Swartberg, and it looks particularly dark in this picture because it was almost completely devastated by a fire in 2016 (the first to occur there in almost 80 years). But the veld tends to appear darker in the Swartland than elsewhere because of the region’s unique – and highly threatened – renosterveld. Read more about this at Swartland Botanics. >
