PREVENT MOISTURE LOSS

I wrote about this at great length in the Summer 2017/18 edition (Platteland #17, “Cover Stars”). Applying thick mulch is the second-most important thing you can do. It not only prevents soil from drying out but also creates a stable slow-release nutrient delivery system, which is critical to growing drought-tolerant plants.
