Buy – or win! – a Moonbloom 2022 planting calendar

-

Gaye’s annual Moonbloom calendar is based on the moon phases and South Africa’s climate zones (Western Cape; Eastern Cape and Klein Karoo; Western Free State; Northern Cape and North West; Gauteng; Free State Highveld and Limpopo; Mpumalanga; KwaZulu-Natal Midlands; and KwaZulu Natal Lowveld and coast). The calendar helps you determine which days are best to sow certain seeds, plant or replant, or complete certain tasks in the garden – so that in time you can establish a simple, healthy plant cycle. It uses symbols to indicate when is the best time to plant leaf vegetables or herbs, flower vegetables, stem vegetables, fruit vegetables, seed vegetables or root vegetables. The other categories are oneyear-old flowering plants; flower bulbs and two plus year-old flowering plants; and trees. Gardening tasks include the best days to perform root or stem cuttings; prune to increase or decrease growth; cut grass to increase or decrease growth; apply a foliar fertiliser; apply compost, mulch and organic fertiliser; weed; and apply natural pest control.

The calendar comes with a companion plant guide. It is printed on a thick, eco-friendly Munken card, and is wirebound, with a punch-hole and metal eyelet for hanging. Calendar cost R150, or pay R600 for four and get a fifth free.

Handy posters are also available (in hard copy as well as digital) with practical info about natural pest control, companion planting and seed collection.
