What can you put in the iCompost?

-

Unlimited

Your kitchen waste will vary, but the following can always be used in the iCompost:

• Fruit and vegetable trimmings, including citrus peels

• Cereals, grains, nuts (without shells) and legumes

• Egg and eggshells

• Coffee grounds and teabags

• Dead cut flowers and weeds

• Solid dairy products such as cheese

In small quantities

These foods can be used in small quantities, mixed with foods on the “Unlimited” list:

• Starchy leftovers such as pasta, rice and potato

• Sweet or sticky foods such as jam, cake, dessert and peanut butter (we’re talking about scraps of toast with peanut butter)

• Soft, sweet fruit such as melon, grapes, pineapple and banana

• Foods that contain a lot of salt (this can be harmful to your plants)

• Fibrous foods such as celery, spinach, asparagus stalks, and melon or pineapple peels should be chopped into smaller pieces before you add them

• Fish bones, but not chicken or other bones, as they may cause the blade to get stuck

Never

These types of waste can damage the device, break the blades, or get stuck between the blades and damage the motor:

• Hard nut shells, such as coconut, walnut and pistachio shells

• Hard fruit pits, such as those of peaches, nectarines, mangoes and avocados

• Large meat bones

• Corn cobs

• Cooking oils and fats (but wilted lettuce with a little dressing is fine)

• Sweets and chewing gum

• Liquids such as milk or soup

• Packaging materials (even though paper and cardboard are biodegradable and can be composted if moistened, the iCompost was not designed and has not been tested for these materials)
